Please do not use any sites such as infoplease.com, ask.com, about.com, wiki(anything).com, etc. These are not reliable sites as anyone can answer the question, and it is not reviewed for accuracy. Those types of sources will result in an automatic zero on that specific assignment.

Some suggestions:
- Look up recent treaties your country is part of. The other countries that are part of that treaty will be countries you have diplomatic ties with
- Search your country's foreign relations (for example, type in "[your country] foreign relations")
- Look at recent news articles about your country. Any other countries that work with and help your country (or you help them) are countries you have diplomatic ties with. Any countries you don't get along with are countries you would list under "no diplomatic ties"

I will continue to answer questions about this assignment until Monday of next week.

If you need a article for your current event, go to Google, type in the search box your countries name, then press enter. After you do that there should be a tab among the top of the page that says NEWS, click it. It should come up with a bunch of articles. One of them might be political or UN related. Click one of the articles and it might be the article your looking for. WARNING: SOME OF THE ARTICLES MIGHT BE FROM A NON RELIABLE SOURCE PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN CHOSING A ARTICLE.

It is about at least 1 month in the past like since it is December 24 you can take a topic from December. Although just to be careful I think I would personally go with 2 weeks because I am not so sure about the month time limit.

Hey I'm really confused.
On our topic papers what do we write about?
For example: pollution control
Do we write about countries working toward it, companies working toward it, our country's status on it, the effects?

Reply
Sam
12/25/2014 11:21:01 am

Julia do everything else that is specific like the topic "Human Rights In North Korea" and then tomorrow I will find out about your question.

Reply
Sam
12/25/2014 11:46:19 pm

If the topic has a specific point to a specific country, then you talk about that country otherwise you write the event about the general idea (I think that's it but you can ask Mrs.Hirsch when we get back from break and for right now just do the topics that have something to do with a specific country).

Overall Sam has answered all the questions correctly. To be more specific, below is a reminder of what we discussed in class about Topic Papers. All of these steps (and the topic paper subjects) are on this website under the "Model UN" tab.

1. Search for an article on the subject. Some of the topics are specific to a country (such as denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula), in which case you will need to look for an article that specifically addresses trying to rid the Korean Peninsula of their nuclear weapons. Some topics (such as pollution control), are much more general; in which case, you would find a news article dealing with pollution control somewhere in the world. As always, it should be a reliable article/source and be relevant to the topic (not how one college in the USA is trying to recycle, but more like how China is setting political policies to control their pollution output).

2. All articles should be recent (within one month of the day you are searching for the article). So if you look for an article on January 1st, your article should be from December 1st or later.

3. Read your article a few times to really understand what it is saying about the topic.

4. Follow the topic paper format (Heading should have name, date, student # and title with committee name & topic). Paper should be in Times New Roman, size 12, double spaced etc.

5. Type a 1 page summary of the article you found (just like you did with your current events). Make sure you have a separate page with the source properly cited. I suggested having the last 1 or 2 sentences address how this topic influences your country and/or how your country can help with this issue.

Can we use the example about China with pollution control or anything related to it in one of our topic papers?

Reply
Julia
1/3/2015 11:23:50 pm

Does anyone know if when we write about pollution control, can write about how pollution has effected the country, then how our country can help? Or do we have to write about how the country has worked toward pollution control?

Reply
Sam
1/3/2015 11:55:03 pm

Julia, I believe it is how the country has worked toward pollution control.

Reply
Julia
1/4/2015 04:02:44 am

Another thing, for pollution control we can do any type of pollution right? Or does it have to be overall?

Reply
Mrs. Hirsch
1/4/2015 06:15:51 am

You should find an article on pollution control (policies being made by a country to help control the amount of pollution they are causing or companies in that country are allowed to produce). It can be on any type of legitimate pollution that affects a country (pollution in the ocean, ozone/atmosphere etc. -but I wouldn't do something like light pollution).

Sorry for asking sooo many questions. But i'm trying to write about fracking, and after finding out what it means I am unsure what on fracking I am supposed to write about. Do we write about how a country is using fracking, a country getting rid of fracking, ect.

Reply
Sam
1/4/2015 08:02:09 am

Since the definition of fracking is to extract natural gas from shale rock layer deep beneath the ground, it seems like it would be using fracking.
